Why is my horses tail thinning? 4 easy steps to improve your horses tail

There can be many reasons why your horse's tail is getting thin. The most common reason is brushing a dry, dirty tail. We all love to see a beautiful, shiny, tangle-free, full tail but brushing a tail that is dirty or dry just damages the cuticles and snaps the hair. This damage then causes more tangles, more dirt will stick to the hair and it becomes a vicious cycle Leaving a scraggy-looking tail that's unbalanced.

There are other reasons why your horse's mane or tail is thinning. If your horse is dirty or itchy, they will rub and this will cause them to pull their own hair out. Your horse may be suffering from sweet itch which is an allergic reaction to insect bites from spring to autumn, there could be a skin infection like ringworm or pyoderma.   1. Wash tail with berries and leaves shampoo bar. If your horse is itchy, we recommend you use the one for dry and sore skin, the lavender in it is excellent for soothing itching and the shea butter makes it highly conditioning. Make sure you use WARM water, this is important as it opens the follicles

  2. Rinse out the shampoo and use a tiny amount of berries and leaves mane and tail detangling conditioner. Put a small amount in your hands and smear evenly over the hair

  3. This is the important part! While the conditioner is working its magic, brush the hair in sections working from the tips to the dock and then go through it with a comb. This will help spread the conditioner evenly. The hair will be more elastic while wet and highly nourished by the conditioner, which helps prevent breakages. You want the aim to leave the conditioner in for 5 minutes

  4. Rinse the conditioner off. The natural properties of the conditioner will close the cuticles and strengthen hair, this will prevent further tangles and damage and most importantly, repel staining keeping the hair healthy, strong, shiny and clean!
